The Curtain Never Goes Down

27 Mar

We have a tradition at the all school musical – the curtain never goes down on closing night.  You put your heart and soul into a show and it’s comforting to know that it’s never really over.  You take a piece of it with you … always.

Our new family tradition is to take a family photo on a piece of the scenery.  We piled onto the plane this year!

Last year’s. 🙂

Alright, someone hasn’t finished their sermon yet and it’s closing in on midnight.

Someone really should have planned ahead better.

Someone is really grateful for diet coke right now.

Behind The Scenes – Spit Take Edition

26 Mar

One of the best parts about growing up with a dad who directs a show every year is that I get to see all of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. It truly take a village to put on a show and I thought that I would give you a glimpse into some of the funnier things that go on.

For example. This show has two “spit takes” – meaning water gets spit. During one of them the stream of water hits another actor. During the other one, however, it goes straight into the pit. Apparently the first night it soaked the guitar player, his music and the timpani. So they came up with a solution …

The guitar player wears an umbrella hat during that scene.

I’m snacking on pizza and working on my sermon.

The curtain goes up in an hour!

26 Mar

I realize it’s 2 a.m. and most normal people don’t blog at this hour, but I’m trying to unwind after a busy day and this is the best way I know how.

After tonight’s show we had an “adult cast party” at our lovely choreographer’s house.  Every year she hosts this party and every year there is wayyyyy too much food.  This year she had it catered by PRIMOS!

All of this + an assortment of drinks.  I drank a Corona and pretended I was on a beach in Mexico.

Pictures from the show tonight – great audience!

I love her smile in this photo.

Let’s do a quick poll – who has actually listened to a record in their lifetime?

Another successful show!  Two more shows tomorrow and then it’s back to reality (musicals do not equal reality). We move a week from today!

Photo Night!

25 Mar

This is totally unrelated, but I realized this morning that I never really posted an “after” photo of my haircut on here (except for a quick snapshot outside of the salon and I look totally exhausted!)  So here you go …

I love it!

Okay, so onto my night.  I took almost 700 photos on two different cameras tonight! I put my 18-55mm lens on my parent’s dSLR and my 75-300mm lens on my dSLR and alternated between the two throughout the night.  I’m tired!

Unfortunately, we loaded all of the photos onto my dad’s computer before I left the school, so I only had my SD card when I got home.  All of the big group shots are on the other card.  But here are some of the shots from my camera!  Goodnight!

Epic Photography

20 Mar

Another fabulous show!

I have officially seen some or all of The Drowsy Chaperone for seven straight days.  I literally break out into song at random now.

I’m so cool.

Let’s see … my mom took me out to lunch after church this afternoon!

I had an a-maaaazing chef salad from The Villager.  It was delicious!

The show started at 3, so there wasn’t much time for me to get anything done before I left.  But it was so nice to leave the theater when it was still light out!

This is quite possibly the most epic photo I’ve ever taken.

It’s dinnertime!

Random question – I’m trying to transfer my mom’s music from her old laptop to her new one.  The old laptop is practically dead so I was hoping to just transfer the music from her iPod into her new iTunes and then have that iTunes be the new default.  Is that possible?

Goodnight Moon

20 Mar

Someone got a standing ovation tonight!

The show was wonderful … as always!  Actually, the humor is such that every night I “get” a new joke.

Then I laugh, whisper, “I GET IT!” and Bruce wonders why he married me.

We’re watching the UCONN men play and eating a late late late dinner!

(And an unhealthy one to boot!)

The moon is supposedly the largest it’s been in 20 years.  It’s so bright!

Night all! 🙂

Opening Night

19 Mar

Sorry I disappeared yesterday – it was Opening Night!

I snuck backstage to see the last minute hustle and bustle and to hear the cast warm up.

My dad and two of the costumers.  Cindy, the woman in the middle, did my hair for my wedding!

So … How was the show?

I think my dad’s face says it all.  As soon as the lights came up he looked over at us and said, “I don’t know what we can do to make it better!”  It was a-mazing!

Bruce and I went over to my parent’s to celebrate after the show.  At one point I fell asleep on their couch in front of a basketball game, Bruce woke me up around 1, we drove home and promptly crawled into bed – where I slept soundly until 10:30 this morning. 🙂 I needed that!

I made waffles for breakfast!  We were both SO hungry.

I have a bunch of stuff to do around the house today – catch ‘ya later!
